An Act to enable the Town of Dartmouth to purchase land, and for other purposes.
(Passed on the 19th day of April, A. D. 1884.)

SECTION.
1. Town Council may borrow.
2. Proceeds of loan, how applied.
3. May make by-laws, rules, etc.

5. Conveyances when to be made.

Be it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly, as follows:

Town Council may borrow:
1. The Town Council of Dartmouth is hereby empowered to raise by the issue of debentures a sum not exceeding three thousand dollars, which debentures shall issue under the hand of the Warden, and any two or more of the Councillors under the seal of the town, and countersigned by the Clerk, and shall bear interest at a rate not exceeding six dollars by the hundred by the year, payable half yearly, and shall be redeemable at periods to be expressed in such debentures, not exceeding twenty years from the date of issuing the same, and shall not be issued for a less sum than one hundred dollars, and such debentures shall be free from municipal taxation.

Proceeds of loan, how applied:
2. The proceeds of such debentures shall be used by the Town Council for the purchase of a plot of ground for the purpose of a public cemetery, and the Town Council are hereby authorized to purchase with such proceeds, and at a price not to exceed three thousand dollars, a suitable piece of ground either within or beyond the limits of the town, for the purpose of being used as aforesaid, and the said cemetery when established shall be subject to such rules and regulations as the Town Council shall ordain.

May make by-laws, rules, etc.:
3. The Town Council shall have authority to make all laws, rules, and regulations as to them shall seem necessary with respect to the renting or sale of lots in the said cemetery, the arrangement thereof, and all things requisite to the good order and efficient management of the same; provided that no such regulations, rules or by-laws shall have any force or validity until the same are approved of by the Governor in Council.

Conveyance of property authorized:
4. The Town Council are hereby authorized to accept from the Chebucto Marine Railway Company a strip of land, being the property of the said company, consisting of fifteen feet in width, lying immediately north of the land hereinafter described, and extending from Prince Edward street to an unused street laid out on the plan of the town at highwater mark, and to convey to the said company a block of land consisting of the extremne southern portion of Prince Edward street, extending fifty feet from the southern end thereof, and also a block of land consisting of the southern portion of an unused street laid out on the plan of the town, being the unused street before mentioned, the northern boundary of the lot last mentioned being in the same line with the northern boundary of the lot next before mentioned.

Conveyances, when to be made:
5. Such conveyance by the Town Council shall not be made until the Town has received a conveyance from the company of the land first mentioned in the next preceding section.
