Sprawl costs us all

Dartmouth itself has a population density of 1,142.7 per km².

Halifax County (HRM) has a population density (including Dartmouth) of 17.4 per km².

If Dartmouth were to contain the entire population of Canada we’d need to be 30,052 km².

Dartmouth needs to do more to ensure that development shifts from the periphery to the center, and not just for fiscal reasons as seen below.

Preservationists need to ensure that future infill development respects the existing neighborhood. Urbanists need to ensure that as housing demand increases inside the beltway, affordable housing development increases as well so that low income households can remain in place.
